An Introduction for Barrie

Our next speaker is a creative and strategic thinker with bundles of enthusiasm and an amazing ability to help teams and individuals think differently. He is a founding partner of TomorrowToday, where he consults with individuals and companies, assisting them to discover and develop their Bright Young Things. Barrie speaks to well over 100 companies and organisations every year. He can be mostly found in Johannesburg, where he lives with his wife and 2 daughters. Please welcome Barrie Bramley.

Detailed Profile

I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and moved to Durban in 1993 after taking up a position at a large Youth Development NGO. My next move was to head up the International Youth Development Centre, a project that specialized in recruiting young adults from countries outside of South Africa and placing them in community development projects in and around Durban. During this time I had an amazing opportunity to develop a National High School Development Project for one of South Africa’s largest Youth Agencies. I also spent some time lecturing and supervising students in the Community and Youth Development Department of the Durban Institute of Technology. After stepping out of the non-profit NGO world I’ve worked in a variety of industries and companies.

Amongst the people I know and have worked with I’m well known for my creative thinking and the bundles of enthusiasm I can be counted on to bring to most environments I work within.

Now that our family is back in Jozi, I head up TomorrowToday’s Talent Development Project. I’m convinced that discovering, attracting and retaining Bright Young Things is one of the next BIG challenges business is going to have to find solutions for, and that TomorrowToday are ideally positioned to significantly contribute to this global conversation.

I’m is also a ‘social software’ activist, and love working with organisations to help them understand the emerging social media space, and how it can be used to enhance the environment to create a more authentic conversations between their people.

My creativity (maybe stubbornness) has found it’s way into many organisations and projects. One currently ‘on the boil’ is a significant contribution to one day cricket in the form of ‘DotBall’. It was recently tested in the IPL series played in South Africa, as well as two T20 internationals between South Africa and Australia.

Leisha and I have been married since 1993, and we have 2 beautiful daughters.

Comments from Anglo American Executive Study Block, held at Gordon Institute of Business Science, and facilitated by Barrie Bramley and Keith Coats:

Very good, informative, exciting presentation. Will help leaders manage, retain talent, solve problems etc.

Very good for the first day after a long flight, not too heavy. Fun with some interesting insights. Very good use of different media in presentation.

Excellent – made to review both relationships within the company and do markets and consumers.

Illuminating presentation on generations and interesting insights into generation gaps.

Excellent facilitation/presentation style and use of multimedia. Highly relevant material.

An extremely enjoyable and relevant presentation. Certainly I will consider the “Generation Gap” and modify my actions/ behaviour in situations where generation gaps overlap.

Excellent information provided by the presenters. The information can no doubt be applied in business strategy and in confronting daily issues.

Very relevant to our dilemma of proper management of people.

Ali Bacher, the Executive Director of the Cricket World Cup 2003 organising committee, about Barrie’s Dot Ball cricket concept:

“My colleagues and I believe it is an excellent innovation which will address a vital missing element in Limited Overs Cricket… Its introduction will definitely add a rich new dimension to the whole experience and understanding of the one-day game… as yet another proud SA innovation for international cricket.”

“Please convey our thanx to Barrie for his excellent presentation! Our Management team were very impressed with his presentation. I am sure that we will make use of your company again in the future.”
- Marietjie Coetzee, Private Secretary to Chief Engineer (ALCM)(Technical), Spoornet

I was blown away by your GENERATIONS presentation at Lever Pond’s feedback session last Thursday. I tried explaining it to others later but could not really do justice.
