In a rapidly changing world, everyone is under pressure to adapt. There has been an exponential increase in technology, which allows more technological going on in any given hour than ever before. This has resulted in people expecting instant results as we know we have the means to provide it. Change is happening so fast that people constantly need to evolve. For example, first we had the telex, then we had SMS’s, now we have MXit.
In the same way that technology is evolving, so society evolves. One generation has different perceptions, opinions, expectations, values, loyalties and methods of communication than their children and grand-children.
It’s therefore hardly surprising that we battle to be understood by our elderly parents, younger children, and vice versa.
It is no wonder then that a 19-year old IT boffin, with an eyebrow piercing and size 40 pants balanced dangerously on his buttocks, misunderstands his 50-something FD who actually finishes his sentences and looks him in the eye when speaking to him?
