Mentor and Mentee Programme

Assisting both Mentors and Mentees with self-awareness and communication skills

Training rationale

All TomorrowToday’s training is conducted within the context of the new world of work. We look at your company’s specific needs and existing skills and marry them to our material, which focuses on global trends that are likely to influence tomorrow.

Training methodology

Our training is fun and interactive. We like to keep our number to less than 20 people per group, which allows for plenty of questioning, discussion and ‘doing’ time. Our belief is that most people are visual and kinesthetic learners, which is why we use a light-hearted, fun, and edutainment-style approach, with lots of multi-media and interactive applicative activities.

Course Objectives

In a world where there is so much information available to us all the time via multiple channels, where there is a clear generation communication gap, where the expectations of the workplace have changed there is always a need for new learning, re-learning and un-learning. In addition to this, young people coming into the workplace in South Africa are the Outcomes Based Education (OBE) generation, who do things fundamentally differently and need practical guidance. Mentorship has through out history; and in every society, played a very important role in passing wisdom. This is what young people need, and older people may get some insights into how younger people think.

Course Outline

  • An introduction to the new world of work and the connection economy
  • Exploring reasons for why we need to do things and see things differently
  • Day one focuses on the self, looking at me and what I need to learn and how I learn how I think/ feel/ behave so that I can become less emotional and therefore more productive in the workplace. We look at:
    • Identity: What is it? What impression does it make? What prejudices exist around generational, gender,       cultural and sub-cultural identity, how knowing ourselves gives us confidence to be comfortable with ourselves and each others
    • Emotional intelligence: The focus is on EQ and as well as IQ in the new world of work. Why EQ is important and useful today is because of the need to build relationships with people. Being self-aware and emotionally mature makes us less emotional, more rational and ultimately more productive
    • The different brain states: Understanding the difference between and the use of the reptilian, limbic and neo-cortex brain to achieve productivity and rationality
    • Ego: Explaining what the ego is, how it is useful and also provides us with a) limiting beliefs and b) negative emotions
    • Positions of power: Looking at aggressive, passive and assertive management styles; and team leader styles, which are all based on levels self-worth
    • Non-verbal and verbal communication: Looks at the power of the body, facial expressions and vocal tone as a tool for communication as well as the importance of words
  • The course provides tools for recognizing your behavior
  • Day two focuses on building a mentor programme for delegates to be able to continue with the programme by themselves. This focuses on goal setting, giving and providing feedback, how to cope with change; and effective communication with others.
